Manny Pacquiao: WBC's Fighter of the Decade

WBC chief Jose Sulaiman announced from the it’s headquarters in Mexico City that Manny Pacquiao was voted by the World Boxing Council (WBC) as its Fighter of the Decade (2001-2010), beating out Oscar De La Hoya and a few other names for the much coveted award.

The 32-year old pound-for-pound king won several championship belts under WBC aside from numerous titles from other boxing sanctioning bodies. Pacquiao briefly held the WBC super-featherweight and lightweight titles and just recently added the super-welterweight title to his growing collection after also winning titles at flyweight (WBC), super-bantam (IBF), feather (The Ring magazine), super-lightweight (IBF) and welter (WBO).

Having been given similar distinctions by the Boxing Writers Association of America and The Ring magazine for the same feat, WBC's Fighter of the Decade award will only add more luster to Pacquiao’s already proud and popular name.

Pacquiao is currently on vacation in Tokyo and Australia for the holiday with his family and is scheduled to return to the ring on May 7 against Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

A 9-1 favorite against Mosley, Pacquiao plans to go on board on an eight-week training camp for what they described as “a very tough fight” considering Mosley’s durability and experience.

Trainer Freddie Roach also said that he is willing to camp out in Baguio City Philippines once again initially for four weeks and spend the next four at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood.
